Many side trips are possible off the Strip, even if Vegas is new to you. Although many associate Las Vegas with gambling, glitz and glamour, there are many other things that you can do in Sin City. Last week we discussed some of the lesser known gems located just outside of Las Vegas Strip.
Jeff German
In the last few years, German has expanded his work to podcasting. He also wrote a series about organized crime called "Mobbed Up. The Fight For Vegas." It was produced in part by the Review-Journal, and the Mob Museum. The series focused on the shadowy characters that lived in Las Vegas Valley in 1970s-80s.
His reporting uncovered political corruption and three decades of organized crime in Las Vegas. Most notably, he broke the story of the mass shooting that left more than 60 people dead and hundreds more injured in 2017. He also wrote the true-crime story book on a mob connection to the area. He broke the 1998 murder of Ted Binion, casino magnate. He also worked as a CNN analyst on Binion.

Cary Darling
The desert oasis of Las Vegas, Nevada, is a popular spot for celebrities and politicians to host public events, including a presidential debate. Las Vegas is a great backdrop for the third presidential discussion, which takes place in a city known for its extravagant excesses. However, not everyone was impressed.
Lance Lipinsky
Lance Lipinsky (pianist and writer) grew in Texas and moved from Texas to Las Vegas to try and recreate his success as a musician. He also learned to be a professional entertainer in Vegas and began to write original material. At the age of 17, he was discovered by the Las Vegas Strip and started his career.
Lipinsky descends from the legends Charlie Rich and Fats Domino. His showmanship is high-energy and he plays 60s pop and classic Country. He encourages audience participation.
Velveteen Rabbit
The Velveteen Rabbit is originally from Philadelphia and is a colourful and captivating mix of music, mime, and stage magic. Nana is the rabbit's nurse and a body puppet that measures 10 feet tall. Other adult characters can only be seen in shadow. The show runs Monday through Saturday from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.

The musical adaptation of the 1922 children's classic "The Velveteen Rabbit" is a two-act work featuring choreography by K. T. Nelson and a stellar cast of dancers. The 25-year old company's signature style incorporates elements of traditional European dance as well as Asian bunraku. This production is worth seeing if you're ever in the vicinity.
Encore Boston Harbor
The Encore Boston Harbor, located in Everett Massachusetts, is near the Logan International Airport. It also has many colleges and universities. The towering building towers over the Mystic River and is visible from major roads. It's a nice spot to spend a last-minute weekend in Boston.
The 600 guest rooms at Encore Boston Harbor are neutrally decorated and have light, airy finishes. Some rooms offer views over Boston Harbor and the skyline. The price per night for a room can vary depending on its type.
